Heron Systems Awarded Contract to Extend Lassie to Support DoD EHR
May 2018. Heron Systems has been awarded a Phase 2 SBIR Contract from the Defense Health Agency under the management of the US Army’s Telemedicine and Advanced Technology Research Center (TATRC) to advance the capabilities and maturity of Lassie, our virtual medical concierge. This contract will extend the Lassie concept into the staff and clinical aspects of the patient experience, allowing for an integrated concierge experience. Work will begin in September 2019.
Lassie is a virtual medical concierge accessible via a smartphone app. Using Lassie, a visitor to Dod Military Treatment Facilities is able to interact with a live indoor map, receive turn by turn directions from their parking place to their appointments, receive and send notifications, and complete other tasks that smooth their experience as a patient.
This contract will extend this capability to include interacting with the patient’s electronic health record, making possible patient care experiences such as automated check in/out, secure messaging with providers, appointment management, pharmacy refills, and receipt of pre/post-care instructions.
Recognizing that improving patient experience is a vital requirement for MTFs, we are bringing Lassie to MTF staff and administrators. The staff app will allow for the collection of facility issues, care bottleneck supports, space utilization data, and other relevant information. By pairing this data with Lassie’s Real Time Localization Service (RTLS), adopting MTFs receive a rich dataset that aligns what is happening with where and when it is happening. Administrators can now discover the root cause of issues, design a solution, and track progress automatically.
Lassie is broadly applicable to regional medical systems and hospitals. Adopting the SMART on FHIR standard allows Lassie to work with commercial EHR systems. This contract will prepare Lassie for this transition.
